FTZVI serves import/export interests of Island businesses and transportation providers with all the advantages afforded FTZ Points by the Government of Canada. FTZVI also actively markets Vancouver Island business opportunities to prospective investors wherever Canada has trade agreements.
Purposeful
FTZVI is a result of several years of work by the Vancouver Island Economic Alliance (VIEA) to help raise the international profile of Vancouver Island as a preferred destination for foreign direct investment and to provide a competitive advantage for Island-based export businesses.
FTZ Point designation announced in September 2018 marked the beginning of a pivotal time during which Vancouver Island will assume its role as a prominent component in Canada’s Asia Pacific Gateway.
FTZVI is guided by a Board of Advisors appointed by the VIEA Board of Directors and managed by the VIEA President & CEO.
Unique
FTZVI is unique amongst the twelve FTZ Points across Canada. It is the only regional designation and the only FTZ Point awarded to a non-government organization—the Vancouver Island Economic Alliance (VIEA). FTZVI is also the only FTZ west of Quebec with direct access to ocean transport.
